Protecting a city from lightning strikes
Happy customers tell the story best! There’s no better way to illustrate the effectiveness of our lightning blocker technology than to talk about a multiple-time repeat client, the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Due to its location along the strike-prone Banana River Lagoon, the city’s water reclamation facility (WRF) suffered a catastrophic strike in 2021. The result was loss of telecommunications and monitoring devices, pumps and the WRF’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition operating system, which led to a large insurance claim. The city then began the search for the best permanent solution to their lightning problem, leading to the purchase and installation of the CMCE lightning suppression device.
Since installation of the lightning blocker, there have been zero strikes on the WRF facility. For this reason, the city has recently decided to install additional devices at other municipal locations to protect more vital assets from loss, partially funded by a safety grant.
This spring the insurance provider for Cape Canaveral, Preferred Governmental Insurance Trust, awarded the city a $5,000 TIPS matching grant to offset the cost of additional CMCE devices. The photo above was taken at the check award ceremony, held recently at City Hall.
